Carole E. Shelton is an educator, storyteller and author.  She tells a wide variety of stories for children and adults.  Included are historical first person portrayals, original stories, folktales and inspirational stories. Carole continues her professional growth and development as a storyteller through workshops and professional conferences.

On May 23, 2010 on Scott Freedom Weekend, Carole E. Shelton portrayed Harriet Scott with a most beautifully sincere and passionate first person narrative.  Her portrayal of the spirit of Harriet as she walked around the new memorial pavilion was reflective of her life and grateful for the remembrances that have occurred since 2006 when it was confirmed that she was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Hillsdale, MO in St. Louis County.

Carole's first person narrative was heartfelt and heartwarming as she took on the persona of this civil rights pioneer.  Dressed in clothing reminiscent of the 1850s, we delighted to hear from "Harriet Scott" in the person of this wonderful storyteller, Carole Shelton.  It is with much gratitude that we thank her for allowing Harriet to respond to the wonderful things that have happened in her honor.

Named in honor of the wife of Dred Scott and the co-plaintiff in the Dred Scott decision, the memorial pavilion also stands as a memorial to all whose graves have been lost to the ravages of time and neglect, but many, many have been and are being restored as the restoration continues at Greenwood.
